One of my leaving presents was this beautiful orchid. I'm not reknown for my green fingers, so wanted to get a picture of it on here before I inadvertently kill the thing off.
It's a stunner and has lots of unopened buds, so should (in theory) stay in bloom for ages.
Am a little worried that there is already a brown leaf. Not sure if I'm meant to give it lots of water, or practically none. I'm guessing the latter, as the pot doesn't appear to have any sort of drainage. But have been taking the middle road thus far…
Seven to ten days at least between waterings, Sian! They’re a parasitic plant, no roots at all, just rootlets which will rot if overwatered. They want a cool place, filtered light (away from the window) and very sparse watering. After bloom you cut them back a bit and they will eventually rebloom…or so I’m told.

saus – if no drainage, drill hole in botton – they are GORGEOUS – like good soak, but if roots remain wet, will
go brown, and “drown” – so keep moist, but never let “sit” in water – hope this helps…….and hope they’re still
alive when I get there! luv

Ah, so glad you like the orchid! Don’t you dare kill it! Woman in shop said it should last 3 months, so there’s your challenge! Kirstie

I was given one recently, was told “water sparingly once a week”, it is now dead.
So don’t ask me!
Good luck with it, don’t suffer the wrath of Kirstie!

Welcome to blog-land Kirstie! You’ll be glad to hear the buds are opening so I think I must be doing something right. 2 weeks down, another 10 to go if 3 months is the lifespan- will keep you posted.
