Cryptic creations

Filed under: crosswords — by ichabodisitchy @ 9:47 pm

One of my hobbies is putting together cryptic crosswords. I love trying to solve crosswords too, although must admit I'm not as good as I'd like. I normally try the Guardian puzzles (or Observer Everyman if it's Sunday)– particularly enjoy Araucaria (who doesn't?), Rufus and Paul.

Writing crosswords is one of those activities that can really suck you in. You find yourself trying to decipher every word that you see– street signs, headlines, posters, anything. And you start making up clues for all those words too. I think I shall use this blog as the occasional vent for my cryptic creations.

So here's the first one:

  1. Hi, Sian. Maxine at Petrona suggested I introduce myself to you, introduce you to the Set Puzzle we’re all addicted to (http://www.setgame.com/puzzle/set.htm), and try to entice you into playing along with us. Since I do what I’m told, here I am. Well, it may seem cryptic, but I blog over at http://the-deblog.blogspot.com, and we log our Set scores every day, and on Saturdays we combat the bebops (http://crosswordbebop.blogspot.com) for bragging rights. Check it out if you’re interested. I get the impression that you know Maxine in person so this may not seem odd to you….

  2. Thank you Deb, for introducing me to the Set Puzzle! Took me forever to do it, but I fear I wasted valuable minutes doing the tutorial (twice!– once for the benefit of Lewis, who joined me half way through). Must do better tomorrow.
